Just the other day my husband and I were discussing the things we were expected to do before we were allowed to go to a friend's house. I was expected to help my mom clean the house, top to bottom, every weekend before I could do anything else. Every night after dinner, I did the dishes. Making my bed every morning wasn't even a question. She wasn't black, but she definitely had rules that none of my other friends' parents had. Now I am grateful for it and instill the same in my son.
